| The most common causes of shoulder and upper extremity injuries are falls, motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries and overuse. Shoulder and upper extremity injuries associated with automobile accidents costs insurance companies billions of dollars each year. |

| Injuries can occur to soft tissue, bones, joints, tendons, or nerves and cause a variety of symptoms. This module will focus on the upper extremity anatomy and will describe they types of injuries associated with specific types of collisions, i.e., head-on versus side or rear impact. |

After completion of the module, the participant should be able to: |

• Recognize the most common types of shoulder and upper extremity injuries |

• Understand when surgery may be necessary versus medical or chiropractic care |

| |

• Describe the diagnostic tools used for evaluation |

• Have an awareness of the potential red flags |
